Looks like some nicer fishing weather coming this weekend, a nice change from our “winter in June” we’ve been having for the past week or so.
There’s good fishing and crabbing out of Port Renfrew right now.
Halibut are being caught out on Swiftsure Bank and along shore in the Carmanah area, ranging 30-40 pounds on average. Port Renfrew Marina reports the biggie last week was 92 pounds, from Seawind Fishing Charters. Nice fish!
For salmon, there’s a fair number of 10-20 pound spring salmon passing through right now. The hint for the day is “go west, go west (farther than normal)”, but the guides are pretty tight lipped about exactly where they are going! So get out there and do some exploring, and find your hot spot, the fish are there.
Crabbing in San Juan Harbour remains excellent.
All in all, should be a great weekend to be out on the water.
Have fun and play safe!
